The analysis, conducted by rideshare comparison app Obi, examined 94,348 autonomous rides between November 27, 2025, and January 1, 2026, covering trips in San Francisco and the South Bay. The study compared key factors such as fare prices, estimated arrival times, and service efficiency across Tesla, Waymo, Uber, and Lyft.

Tesla’s Pricing Advantage

Tesla’s robotaxis clearly outperformed competitors when it came to cost. The study showed that an average ride in a Tesla robotaxi costs $8.17, significantly lower than other services. Lyft followed at $15.47, Uber at $17.47, and Waymo topped the chart with $19.69 per ride.

This pricing makes Tesla robotaxis the most budget-friendly autonomous option, appealing to riders who want to experience autonomous rides without paying a premium.

Convenience and Waiting Times

While Tesla wins on price, the service lags in convenience. Obi’s report found that Tesla robotaxis had an average estimated arrival time of 15.32 minutes, nearly three times longer than Waymo’s 5.74 minutes and significantly slower than Uber’s 3.28 minutes.

The findings suggest that Tesla passengers are trading cost savings for longer wait times, while competitors focus on faster and more efficient service.

Safety Measures and Human Drivers

All Tesla Robotaxi currently operate with a human safety driver on board, equipped with an emergency β€œkill switch” that allows manual intervention if needed. This setup ensures passenger safety but may contribute to the slower response times compared to fully driverless services like Waymo.
